Trains Depart Monday, Thursday, Saturday
Day 1
Our great journey starts in Edmonton, Alberta.  Arrive at Edmonton International Airport and transfer to your hotel, near to West Edmonton Mall.

Day 2  Have a full day to explore the largest shopping mecca on Earth.  It would take 5 days to see everything the mall has to offer so you'll have a busy day.  Nightclubs, shows, submarines, skating, roller coasters, World's largest indoor water park, 20 theaters and so much more are waiting.  And then there are 800 stores and restaurants with something for everyone.  Stay at the Fantasyland hotel, attached directly to the mall.

Day 3  Transfer on your own to North Edmonton Train Station, late this afternoon for the departure westbound on VIA Rail Transcontinental.   Check into your comfortable bedroom and your porter will ask which sitting for dinner you would like.  Such is the service in silver and blue class.  Roll through forests and across the great breadbasket of Canada, the wheatfields of Saskatchewan.   Many people are surprised that Saskatchewan also has thousands of lakes with sandy beaches, oilfields, sand dunes and vast forests.

Fantastic cuisine aboard VIA Rail

Day 4  Today we cross the province of  Manitoba arriving in Winnnipeg.  After taking on passengers continue across the Appalachian Shield of Canada with its great boreal forests and hundreds of thousands of lakes.  Overnight once more in VIA Rails Silver and Blue service with all meals and snacks included.  perhaps enjoy a nightcap (not included) this evening in the Park Car with its panoramic windows.

Day 5  Roll through the cottage country of Ontario and into Canada's largest city, Toronto this evening.  Transfer to your hotel, near to Union Station downtown.   We can extend your tour by one or two nights in Toronto, if you like.

Day 6  Board the train at Union station and continue to Montreal.  There are several departures daily that we can pre-book for you.  After arriving in the great cosmopolitan city of Montreal you have the afternoon/ evening to sample Montreal's cuisine or famous nightlife.  You will think you are in Europe as you are in the second largest French speaking city in the World!

Day 7  Enjoy a great morning sightseeing tour of Montreal and then some free time in the afternoon for shopping or strolling the streets of Montreal.  Early evening you board VIA #1 for the train ride to Quebec City.  Enjoy VIA meal service en route and watch the Quebec scenery roll by.

Old meets new

Day 8  In the morning a tour of Canada's fortified city is provided.  Quebec city is a Unesco World Heritage Sight and is the only walled city in North America.  History abounds here including the Plains of Abraham where the fate of North America was decided by generals Wolf and Montcalm more than 3 centuries ago.  Sample the 3-D 'Quebec Experience followed by free time to visit Old Town and the quaint alleys and streets.  Late evening board VIA #1 once again for service to the East Coast.

Day 9  Arrive in lovely Halifax in the late afternoon and transfer to your hotel.  Have some free time and possibly visit the Titanic cemetery, sight of the massive First World War explosion and other historic sights.  The harbor here extends 26 kilometers (16 miles) inland.  Take a double decker bus, visit art galleries or Discovery Center.  Can we recommend Atlantic lobster, caught fresh nearby, for dinner this evening.

Day 10  A wonderful sightseeing excursion today includes the National Citadel hill, Point Pleasant Park, and Bedford Basin.  The afternoon is free to explore the city's harborfront and shopping districts.

Colorful history is everywhere

Day 11  Your maritime adventure ends with a transfer to Halifax airport or we can pre-arrange additional nights accommodation to extend your stay.  Those staying a couple of extra days can visit historic Lunenburg (home of the infamous Bluenose, for years undefeated champion of the North seas), Peggy's Cover and the fishing village of Truro.  Those with the time can visit the Bay of Fundy to see the World's highest tides and possibly walk on the ocean floor at low tide!
